Links that expire
Share links expire after 90 days by default — a note is meant to reach someone, not live forever. Choose 7 or 30 days, or “never” for a link you’ll reference indefinitely.

Publishing is one action from the palette, the File menu, or the share button — and taking it back down is just as quick.
Publish a note
From the command palette, the File menu, or the share button, publish the current note. Ampersand uploads a self-contained snapshot.
Copy the link
You get a secret share URL, copied to your clipboard. Send it to anyone — no account or app needed to read it.
Update or set options
Republish to push edits to the same link — which also renews its expiry — or open publish options to change how long it lasts.
Unpublish when done
Take the link down anytime. The page disappears and the URL returns a friendly “not found”. This always works.

Who can see a published note?
Anyone with the link. The URL contains a long, random identifier, so it’s unguessable and always kept out of search engines. Treat the link like a key: whoever you share it with, and anyone they forward it to, can read the page.
Is my whole vault uploaded?
No. Publishing is per-note and deliberate. Only the single note you explicitly publish is uploaded as a self-contained page; nothing else in your vault ever leaves your machine.
Can I take a published note down?
Always. Unpublishing removes the page for good and returns a friendly “not found” to anyone who still has the link — and it works regardless of your license status. Only putting content up is a Pro feature; taking it down never is.
What happens when I edit a published note?
Nothing, until you republish. Publishing is a manual snapshot, so your live edits stay private until you choose to update. Republishing pushes the changes to the same link, and a subtle hint tells you when a published page is behind your current draft.
Is web publishing free?
Publishing is part of Ampersand Pro, the one-time upgrade with no subscription. Unpublishing is always free — a lapsed license can still take its content down.
Can I publish an encrypted note?
You can, but Ampersand warns you first: publishing creates a permanent, third-party-readable copy that lives outside your encrypted vault. A locked note must be unlocked before it can be published.
